The Madcap exits
The Legendary genius, Guitar virtuoso, Visionary and most of all an accomplished musician passed away last week, at the age of 60, which concluded his long chosen seclusion from the world.
Roger Keith Barrett, popularly known as Syd Barrett, the co-founder and genius behind Pink Floyd who exited the band rather early, owing to his mental illness catalysed by his excessive use of L.S.D (He was reported to have done almost 250 trips in a span of just 6 months).
Syd Barrett brought to music in the 60's the undeniable touch of Psychedelia accentuated by his plunge to depression and insanity which laid down the blue print for Pink Floyd which remained even after his untimely exit at the helm of their popularity.
Most of all what attracted one to the persona of Syd Barrett - The Piper, is his apparent madness which underlined his classic works. Strange sounds, cryptic lyrics with the touch of uncertain madness epitomised the expression of Psychedelia. Which has continually influenced generations of musicians time and again. His fascination for colours and filters and experimental sound leaves one breathlessly gaping at this mad genius.
To my favourite colourful madman of all times,
Shine On You Crazy Diamond!
